Flower viewing in Hokkaido
Because Hokkaido's spring arrives later than the rest of Japan, it offers a chance to experience the tail end of the blossom season. Peak viewing times can vary, so it is recommended to check the latest forecasts.
Cherry blossoms (Late April–early May):
Cruises often stop in port cities like Hakodate and Muroran, where you can find cherry blossom viewing sites.
Hakodate:
A former trading port, Hakodate is home to Fort Goryokaku, a star-shaped fortress with approximately 1,600 cherry trees. Other famous cherry blossom spots include Hakodate Park and the weeping cherry trees at Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine.
Moss phlox (Early May–Early June):
These flowers create stunning, colorful carpets across hillsides.
Takinoue Moss Phlox Festival:
This festival runs from early May to early June, allowing visitors to see vast fields of moss phlox.

Make your own way to Yokohama cruise terminal If you arrive early.

Explore Yokohama at your own leisure Yokohama and Edo began life as sleepy fishing villages. That changed in the early 17th century after Tokugawa Ieyasu became Shogun. Edo became the center of political power in Japan, a position the city retained even after the restoration of Imperial rule in 1866. Contemporary Tokyo may be the most astonishing city on earth. It’s a paradoxical mix of ancient tradition and postmodern culture. The Ginza – an international shopping mecca – stands near the serene grounds of the Imperial Palace, and the hyper-speed of 21st century consumerism is mysteriously reconciled with the elegance and serenity of traditional culture. Tokyo provides the traveler with a dizzying experience.

Nagasaki, a city with a rich history of international exchange, offers several notable attractions. The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum documents the events and aftermath of the atomic bombing in 1945. Glover Garden is an open-air museum featuring Western-style residences from the Meiji era. Oura Church, Japan’s oldest standing Christian church, is designated as a national treasure. Dejima, a former Dutch trading post, played a crucial role during Japan’s period of isolation.

Jeju Island's southern city of Seogwipo offers access to stunning natural landscapes, unique geological formations, and cultural sites, many of which are designated UNESCO Global Geoparks or World Natural Heritage Sites.

Cheonjiyeon Falls: Known as "The Pond of God," this beautiful three-tiered waterfall is set in a lush gorge and is easily accessible from the city center.

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market: The largest traditional market in Seogwipo offers a vibrant atmosphere and a wide variety of local street food, fresh produce, and unique crafts. It's a great place to experience local culture and sample some of Jeju's specialties like black pork and hallabong tangerines.

Hakodate is a charming port city in southern Hokkaido, Japan, renowned for its spectacular night views, fresh seafood, and unique blend of Japanese and Western historical architecture. It was one of Japan's first ports opened to international trade in 1859, a history still visible in its streetscapes.

Mount Hakodate (Hakodateyama): Famous for having one of Japan's top three night views. An aerial ropeway takes visitors to the 334-meter summit for a panoramic "hourglass" view of the city, framed by Hakodate Bay and the Tsugaru Strait.

Goryokaku Park: Japan's first Western-style, star-shaped fortress, now a public park. The adjacent Goryokaku Tower offers an observation deck with a stunning bird's-eye view of the fort's unique design and surrounding moats, which are particularly beautiful during the cherry blossom season in spring.

Muroran is a major port and industrial city in southern Hokkaido, Japan, known for its dramatic coastal cliffs, scenic lookouts, and industrial night views. It offers a unique blend of natural beauty and heavy industry.

Cape Chikyu (Cape Earth): This is the most famous of Muroran's "Eight Scenic Sights" and offers a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean where the horizon appears curved, giving it its name "Cape Earth". A white lighthouse sits atop the rugged, 100-meter-high cliffs.
